“People stop in amazement. For what they see confounds. One can hardly trust one's eyes. It cannot be that a house has fallen from the sky. There it lies, helpless, on one side of the gable roof, resembling a beetle lying on its back and trying everything in its power to get back on its feet, though it will never succeed. So there it is, the house, lying, roughly constructed from waste wood, austere, and for its simplicity nevertheless shapely, a minimalist sculpture that fits perfectly into the landscape and belongs exactly where it stands–or rather, lies.”
Konrad Tobler
“As light as an idea and yet solidly built, the cottage took its place without having ventured down the conventional paths that a house's construction would usually prescribe. It was not about property and not about private–rather it made visible what belongs to all, what concerns all. Like a hiker at rest, lying in a blooming summer meadow a short way off from Geschinen's tight-knit herd of houses, it was self-sufficient, idiosyncratic yet considerate, foreign yet integrated. A silent visitor.”
