Markus Schwander, born in Lucerne in 1960, studied art and art education at the Lucerne School of Design (SfG) and at the University of Art and Design in Basel. Since 1988 he has worked in the fields of sculpture, drawing, collage and installation and cooperates with Tina Z'Rotz on interventions in public space. Schwander has received various prizes and awards for his artistic work. His works are in the collections of the Kunstmuseums Basel and Lucerne, the Museum Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen and the Roche collection, among others.
Since 1999, Schwander has been a lecturer at the University of Art and Design at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland in Basel. He has worked on various interdisciplinary research projects there since 2007, with a focus on artistic research. The basis of this research activity are serial pictorial processes and investigations of space by means of walks.
